1.  Speak respectfully to each other

2.  Do not undermine the other in front of the children or friends (being overly critical)

3.  Do not intervene when one parent is dealing with the children

4.  Clean up messes as you make them

5.  Ask instead of order around

    These seem to be good rules for a couple, married or not. "Do as you are done by" is scalable and universalizable. I hope this is working for yo; it seems worthy to emulate.
    And if they are not, let us understand why.
